President Donald Trump has stated he anticipates that the United States and Iran will reach a peace deal "in the next day or two." In a phone interview with Axios, he noted that new negotiations might occur over the upcoming weekend, fueled by recent developments in the region.

Trump emphasized that "the Iranians want to meet. They want to make a deal," adding that he believes a meeting is likely to happen soon. The potential location for the talks is Islamabad, where the first round of negotiations took place earlier this year.

In a separate interview with Bloomberg, Trump highlighted that "most of the main points are finalized," suggesting that progress is being made towards a resolution. He also indicated uncertainty regarding the leader of the US delegation, stating, "I may travel to Pakistan" to facilitate the discussions.

Key issues in the negotiations revolve around US demands for Iran to commit to not pursuing nuclear weapons and its agreement to hand over its stockpile of enriched uranium. Trump asserted that Iran has agreed not to seek a nuclear weapon and referred to the enriched uranium as "nuclear dust," which he claims Iran will surrender. The current estimate suggests that Iran has around 450 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60 percent purity, which is below the threshold needed for a nuclear bomb.

These developments come on the heels of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon, which has contributed to a more optimistic atmosphere regarding US-Iran relations. As the situation evolves, both sides seem to be motivated to reach a resolution that could stabilize the region further.
